Waldorf, Maryland, January 2010 – Today, we are thrilled to present the American Cancer Society (ACS) with a check for $20,000 from the Chaney Foundation Bull Roast Fund, a component Fund of the Community Foundation of Charles County (CFCC). The Chaney Foundation’s annual Bull Roast has raised more than $500,000 to support ACS and the community at large is the one to thank. Folks every year come from Charles, St. Mary’s, Anne Arundel, Prince George’s Counties and more to enjoy a day of BBQ, oysters, to reconnect with friends and family and to support the American Cancer Society.
According to the American Cancer Society’s annual cancer statistics report, “there has been 15 years of steady declines in overall cancer death rates, [which] translates to about 650,000 deaths from cancer avoided or delayed during that time period.” The American Cancer Society’s main purpose is to “help people save lives by preventing cancer or detecting it early; helping people get well by being there for them during and after a cancer diagnosis; by finding cures through investment in groundbreaking discovery; and by fighting back by rallying lawmakers to pass laws to defeat cancer and by rallying communities worldwide to join the fight.” The American Cancer Society is the world’s largest non-governmental investor in cancer research, contributing about $3.4 billion, according to ACS.
