Leonardtown, MD — As part of the AFP (Association of Fundraising Professionals) Maryland Chapter’s
annual National Philanthropy Day event held at the Marriott Waterfront in Baltimore, Maryland’s community
foundations received a Special Recognition Award to celebrate the centennial of community foundations and the
vital work they do across the state.

Maryland has 15 community foundations throughout the state that encourage philanthropy in their local
communities. This past year, the community foundations in Maryland distributed more than $138 million in
grants to nonprofit organizations in the areas of education, art, health and human services and the environment.
The AFP-Maryland serves as a leading advocate on fundraising and philanthropic issues in the community and
the professional organization for fundraising professionals.

Community Foundation of Southern Maryland invites everyday people with a vision and a passion for
community to create something together: For good. For ever. We translate collective giving into big local
impact; we give every income level the opportunity to create, and realize the power of an endowment and we
are devoted to make Southern Maryland the best place to live and give.
