THE SOUTHERN MARYLAND’S WOMEN’S LEAGUE FOUNDATION and THE CHANEY FOUNDATION COLLABORATE TO MAKE CHARLES COUNTY THE BEST PLACE TO LIVE AND GIVE
Waldorf, Maryland, November 5, 2008 – “Because of the fallen stock market, bank bailouts and new election, nonprofits are faced with limited resources – fewer people are making larger gifts, so this is a time for nonprofits to think innovatively, share resources and to collaborate”, says Gretchen Heinze Hardman, Executive Director of the Community Foundation of Charles County (CFCC). With that said, we are thrilled to announce the creation of the Southern Maryland Women’s League Fund, a donor-advised endowment fund to benefit organizations who empower and support women in need.
“On behalf of the members of the Southern Maryland Women’s League (SMWL) Foundation, we are proud to establish a $10,000 endowed donor advised fund with the CFCC, and we are honored to receive Mr. Frank Chaney’s matching grant of $10,000, states Candice Quinn Kelly, the SMWL Foundation’s President, since its inception in 2006. “This is an exciting opportunity to share resources rather than duplicate efforts.” “This fund allows us to exponentially enhance our ability to make a difference in our community. In these tough economic times, our local nonprofits more than ever, require a centralized and focused effort as we strive to support their important work.”
Vice President of the SMWL Foundation and member of the Board of Directors at the CFCC, Mollie Gieseman pushed for this winning combination. “Once I understood the purpose of the Community Foundation, I knew right away that the SMWL Foundation would not only gain strength and increase resources by establishing an endowment with the CFCC, but be able to help women overcome the many challenges they are faced within this community.”
“Their [SMWL] passion, their ideas and their plan is what made me want to help too,” says President of the Board of Directors at CFCC, Frank Chaney. “I am happy to contribute to their cause with a $10,000 match.”
This is what the Community Foundation is all about – providing a simple, powerful, and highly personal approach to help people achieve their charitable goals – to make Charles County the best place to live and give.
An oversized check will be presented to the Community Foundation of Charles County at their 3rd annual Philanthropy Day Luncheon on Friday, November 14, 2008.
