Waldorf, Maryland, October 15, 2013: The Community Foundation of Southern Maryland, a 501 c 3 public
charity, would like to announce the establishment of a new component Fund called the 2nd District Kids and
Community Fund. “A Fund, at a Community Foundation is a charitable entity of money established by donors,
individuals, corporations, or nonprofit organizations for specific or unrestricted charitable purposes and held as
an asset of the community foundation,” stated Gretchen Hardman, Executive Director of the Community
Foundation of Southern Maryland.
Some St. Mary’s County residents and friends and family thereof established the 2nd District Kids and Community Fund’s to give back to our community through retaining corporate sponsorships and conducting fundraising events to benefit children and families with needs. According to Bonnie Bowes, President of the 2nd District Kids and Community Fund, “The members of our club want to maximize our focus and fund raising results on our local community. We conducted five months of due diligence looking for ways to organize our club to better (1) attract new and younger members allowing our club to grow its partnerships, sponsorships and abilities, (2) provide tax benefits for our generous donors, and (3) manage the overhead associated with running the club. The Community Foundation of Southern Maryland met this criterion and have been extremely easy to work with. We are excited to have this new association and look forward to continuing our efforts having a positive outcome for our local community kids and families. Please feel free to check out the 2nd District Kids and Community Club to be a part of an organization making a difference.”
The Community Foundation of Southern Maryland’s mission is to enhance the quality of life for the community
