4th Annual Philanthropy Day Luncheon recognized the outstanding achievements of philanthropists, volunteers, youth volunteers, corporations and non-profit organizations whose contributions have made a significant impact in Charles County.  Dr. Francis P. Chiaramonte, M.D. and Mrs. Irene Davis were both honored for their generous support and giving to this community. Dr. Chiaramonte and Mrs. Davis are true philanthropists and exemplify the heart and the spirit of Philanthropy.

In 1977 Dr. Chiaramonte founded Southern Maryland Hospital Center, a 350-bed full service hospital and 24-bed subacute unit, both of which have achieved full, three-year accreditation, the highest awarded, from the Joint Commission’s nationally recognized healthcare standards. Dr. Chiaramonte has opened numerous health clinics in Charles County and the surrounding areas; he is an advocate for preservation, conservation and restoration; and would give his 2000 plus employees frozen turkeys for their Thanksgiving dinner. The Francis P. Chiaramonte, M.D. Center for Science and Technology is a newly renovated building named after Dr. Chiaramonte for his substantial contribution to the College of Southern Maryland.

Irene DavisIrene Davis (✞)
Affectionately known as “Miss Irene”, was a great supporter of Melwood; a member of Zonta of Charles County, a professional women’s group working together to support women and children in Charles County; served on the Board of Directors at County First Bank, Charles County Chamber of Commerce and was voted Working Woman of the Year by the Charles County Chamber. Her “final act of giving, after decades of service to Charles County, was to bequeath a substantial gift to Civista Health Foundation, named The Mack and Irene Davis Rehabilitation Center located within Civista Medical Center to “enhance and advance health care in Charles County”.
