Waldorf, Maryland, February 14, 2011 – The United Way of Charles County creates the United Way of Charles County Fund, a permanent endowed fund of the Community Foundation of Charles County, “to continue and further the work of United Way of Charles County by providing a Fund which will increase in value and provide funds for future use by the organization”.
With a match from the Chaney Foundation, the United Way of Charles County established a $10,000 endowment fund. This is one way the Community Foundation of Charles County (CFCC) facilitates giving by providing the residents of Charles County a way to make a meaningful and lasting contribution. CFCC encourages all philanthropy, with a special emphasis on the establishment of an endowment fund where only the earnings are used to support charitable activities.
“We were glad to hear of the United Way’s decision to create an endowment with the Community Foundation,” stated Kevin Wedding, Chair of the Community Foundation of Charles County. “We hope this marks the beginning of a strong collaborative effort between the two organizations.” Many community foundations describe the relationship between the two organizations like this: United Way is the checking account or provides support for charities today and Community Foundations are the savings account or provides support for the future.
Donations to the United Way of Charles County Fund may be made at anytime. Please make checks payable to the Community Foundation of Charles County and in the memo line add United Way of Charles County Fund or UWCC Fund.
